Sabrina Carpenter Wins Temporary Restraining Order Against Alleged Stalker

Security camera images and police declarations supported the order and placed the case on the calendar for June criminal and civil hearings

Overview

  • Carpenter filed for a civil harassment restraining order after an incident on May 23 when a man she says breached a neighbor’s property, tried to force open her front door and was arrested by police.
  • Court filings and security records indicate the behavior began around April 20 and that the arrested man returned to Carpenter’s neighborhood less than 24 hours after his arrest and again the following day.
  • A Los Angeles judge granted a temporary order requiring William Applegate to stay at least 100 yards from Carpenter, her home, her car, her workplace and other residents of the property including her sister.
  • The petition included Ring doorbell footage and sworn declarations from Carpenter’s private security and LAPD Detective Peter Doomanis, who wrote that Applegate shows a ‘disturbing and irrational fixation’ that poses an escalating threat.
  • Next steps include a civil hearing on June 17 to consider extending the restraining order and a criminal arraignment on June 18 when city prosecutors will review the misdemeanor trespass case and possible additional charges.
