Ryanair to Close Berlin-Brandenburg Base, Halve Berlin Flights

The airline blames higher fees, a night curfew, rising taxes.

Overview

  • Ryanair will shut its base at Berlin-Brandenburg on October 24, 2026, which will cut its flights to and from the city by about 50%.
  • Seven Berlin-based aircraft will move to other European bases in countries that scrapped aviation taxes, including Sweden, Italy, Albania and Slovakia.
  • Company leaders cited rising airport charges at BER, including a planned 10% fee increase for 2027 to 2029, and a night curfew that limits how long planes can operate each day.
  • The changes will drop ten routes from Berlin and offer relocation to about 210 pilots and cabin crew, while some Berlin service will continue from other Ryanair bases.
  • The decision fits a wider pullback in Germany since 2019, after prior exits from Dresden, Leipzig and Dortmund, and the airline warned remaining carriers at BER could face higher fees.
