Overview
- Ryanair set out a 2026 overhaul that drops dozens of European routes and shifts aircraft toward cheaper bases such as Malta, Budapest and Marrakech.
- Service to Portugal’s Azores has been suspended, ending six routes and forcing many of the roughly 400,000 yearly travelers to seek costlier alternatives.
- Spain faces the steepest cuts with the closure of the Santiago de Compostela base, the end of flights to Asturias, Vigo, Valladolid and Jerez, and reductions touching Tenerife North, Santander and Zaragoza.
- Germany loses 24 routes across Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne and Frankfurt–Hahn, while France loses links to Bergerac, Brive and Strasbourg, and Belgium cuts about 20 routes that remove an estimated one million seats at Brussels and Charleroi.
- Under EU Regulation 261/2004, affected passengers can claim a refund or rerouting, get meals and lodging during long waits, and seek set compensation when the cause is within the airline’s control.
