Ryanair Moves to App-Only Boarding in November to Cut Paper Use

The airline says checked-in customers without phone access will be assisted at the airport, with paper still required on specified routes.

Overview

  • Recent reports place the start date on November 12, though some earlier guidance cites November 3, so passengers are advised to check Ryanair’s official updates for final timing.
  • Once the policy begins, most travellers must present boarding passes in the Ryanair app and printed copies will generally not be accepted.
  • If a phone is lost or its battery dies after online check-in, Ryanair will reissue a paper boarding pass at the airport free of charge and staff can board passengers using sequence numbers.
  • Digital passes are not accepted for departures from Morocco or for TiranaUK flights, where a printed boarding pass is required.
  • Published fees include a per-sector airport check-in charge (£55 generally, £30 from Spain, £40 from Austria) and a £20 fee for a replacement boarding pass at the airport.
