Russian Man Gets Four Years for London Assault Seen on Barron Trump Video Call

The judge said Barron Trump’s 999 call spurred a rapid response by London police.

Overview

  • Matvei Rumiantsev was sentenced to four years at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and for trying to derail the case by pressuring the victim to retract her account.
  • A jury on Jan. 28 convicted him on those two counts and cleared him of rape and intentional strangulation.
  • During the Jan. 18, 2025 attack, he answered a FaceTime call from Barron Trump and turned the camera toward the crying victim, which led Trump to call 999 from the United States.
  • Justice Joel Bennathan praised Trump for acting “properly and responsibly,” described Rumiantsev as jealous and unrepentant, and warned he may be deported after his prison term.
  • Prosecutors said the beating lasted about an hour and left the woman bruised and terrified, and evidence showed he later sought to make her withdraw her allegations by phone and by letter from prison.
