Russian Drone and Missile Waves Strike Ukrainian Cities, Rail Hubs and Cargo Ships

The large, multi-day aerial barrage exposed gaps in air defenses, raising concern for civilian safety as transport supply lines face disruption.

Overview

  • The strikes that hit multiple regions on June 10–12 killed and wounded civilians and damaged homes, markets, energy and other public services across Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Odesa and other areas.
  • Ukraine’s Air Force reported Russian forces launched about 221 drones and two Iskander missiles and intercepted the bulk of the barrage, but some weapons penetrated defenses and struck targets at nine locations.
  • Rail infrastructure was a repeated target: a strike on the Konotop locomotive depot in Sumy Oblast killed one railway worker, injured others and showered debris onto a passenger train, prompting Ukrzaliznytsia to pause and evacuate services for safety.
  • Two cargo ships transiting the Odesa maritime corridor were struck by drones, damage that threatens commercial shipping and could complicate export routes through the Black Sea.
  • Reporters and officials say Russia used a mix of Shahed, Geran-2, Molniya, FPV and other UAVs in swarm attacks designed to overwhelm defenses, a tactic that has forced evacuations, altered transport routes and increased humanitarian pressure on frontline and rear communities.
