Overview
- Russia’s First Deputy PM Denis Manturov, who met Indian leaders in New Delhi on Thursday, said Russian firms can raise crude and LNG deliveries to India to offset West Asia supply shocks.
- Manturov co-chaired the India–Russia inter-governmental commission with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, where both sides advanced trade, energy and fertiliser cooperation and reaffirmed the 2030 target of $100 billion in annual trade.
- Talks with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman included defence cooperation, days after India cleared a new batch of five S-400 air-defence systems from Russia.
- Moscow said fertiliser exports to India rose about 40% by end-2025 and noted a joint urea project under development, while civil nuclear construction at Kudankulam is proceeding on schedule.
- The offer could ease pressure on Indian households and industry by replacing LPG and LNG delayed at the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint that carries roughly one-fifth of global oil and gas shipments.
