Russia Launches Mass Rocket-and-Drone Strike on Kyiv and Multiple Regions

Ukraine says its air defences shot down large numbers of incoming missiles and drones while heavy fighting on eastern frontlines spurred strikes on Russian logistics and ships.

Overview

  • A mass combined missile and attack-drone assault struck Ukraine on Sunday night, with Kyiv a principal target and strikes recorded across Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Sumy and other areas.
  • Ukraine’s air-defence and air forces reported destroying large shares of the attack, counting dozens of intercepted ballistic and cruise-type rockets and scores of downed attack drones.
  • The strikes caused confirmed civilian deaths and dozens to hundreds of injuries, damaged homes, transport hubs and utilities in multiple regions and left rescue services working at numerous impact sites.
  • Front-line combat remained intense on eastern axes, with Ukrainian commanders reporting hundreds of engagements and successfully repelling dozens of Russian ground assault attempts on directions including Pokrovsk, Slovyansk and Lyman.
  • Ukrainian forces said they responded with targeted strikes that damaged a railway bridge in occupied Donetsk, struck UAV control nodes inside Russia and hit several tankers at sea to disrupt Russian logistics and fuel supplies.
