Russia Cites Fresh Drone Barrages With Sevastopol Fatality and Power Cuts in Zaporizhzhia

Officials say negotiations with the United States and Ukraine will continue despite low expectations for a rapid peace.

Overview

  • Sevastopol’s governor said air defenses and the Black Sea Fleet downed 16 UAVs over the sea, reporting a 30-year-old man killed by shrapnel and damage to homes, and a later air-raid alert that was lifted after about 20 minutes.
  • Belgorod’s governor reported five districts were attacked by 50 drones over the past day, raising the injured count to four and causing damage to houses and vehicles.
  • Russia’s Defense Ministry said it launched precision strikes on Ukrainian drone infrastructure, including an Iskander strike near Nizhyn it claims destroyed a long-range drone launch site and storage, and asserted losses of over 90 Ukrainian drones and drone operators.
  • Ukrainian public TV reported explosions in the city of Zaporizhzhia, and the Russian-appointed regional governor said a mass attack on energy networks left parts of the northwest of the region, including Enerhodar and nearby villages, without power.
  • A source cited by RIA said the next talks will remain in the three-party RussiaUkraine–USA format, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov cautioned against high expectations and said timing will be announced when set, and Reuters reported European intelligence chiefs doubt a 2026 peace deal.
