Russell Brand Pleads Not Guilty to Two New 2009 Sex-Offense Charges

A March hearing will determine whether the latest allegations are added to a June trial already set on earlier counts.

Overview

  • Brand, 50, entered not guilty pleas at Southwark Crown Court on Feb. 24 to one count of rape and one count of sexual assault alleged in London in 2009.
  • Judge Joel Nathan Bennathan renewed Brand’s bail following the brief appearance, with further case management ordered.
  • A case-management hearing next month will decide if the new counts are joined to the June 2026 trial on five charges tied to alleged incidents from 1999 to 2005.
  • In total, Brand now faces seven charges involving six women: two counts of rape, three of sexual assault, one of indecent assault and one count of oral rape, with alleged incidents in London and Bournemouth.
  • Detectives opened the inquiry in 2023 after reporting by Channel 4’s Dispatches and The Sunday Times, and Brand continues to deny any non-consensual conduct.
