RTA Starts Rapid Fixes at 8 Dubai Congestion Hotspots as New Trade Centre Bridge Opens

The data-led 2026 program targets 15–30% faster trips after last year’s 67 quick measures cut travel times by up to 45% in some areas.

Overview

  • The Roads and Transport Authority has begun implementing short-term upgrades at eight sites as part of a 2026 package of more than 45 enhancements, with locations chosen through traffic studies and real-time monitoring.
  • Measures include widening one-lane roads to two, converting roundabouts to signalised intersections, creating new links, upgrading junctions, adding parking at schools and key facilities, and introducing safety improvements.
  • Work is underway at Emirates Road toward Wadi Al Amardi, Umm Amara Street toward Al Wasl, Jebel Ali–Lehbab Street, the Sama Al Jaddaf–Al Jaddaf Waterfront area, Al Na’ayat Street in Al Barsha 1, the Al Maktoum School area in Al Satwa, the Al Ittihad–Al Quds intersection, and Sheikh Rashid Street near Grand Hyatt Dubai.
  • Once completed, the targeted fixes are expected to reduce congestion and shorten journeys by about 15% to 30% in the affected corridors.
  • Separately, the RTA opened a two-lane, 1,000‑metre bridge linking Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street toward Al Karama and Deira, cutting that movement from six minutes to about one minute as the third of five bridges in the Trade Centre Roundabout project.
