  • The Kansas City Royals announced Friday that they designated 12-year veteran catcher Elías Díaz for assignment and recalled infielder/outfielder Tyler Tolbert from Triple-A Omaha.
  • Díaz appeared in 10 games for Kansas City after signing a minor-league deal in February and hit .227/.261/.591 with two home runs and five RBIs in 23 plate appearances.
  • The designation removes Díaz from the 40-man roster and starts a short waiver window during which other teams can claim him.
