Royal Mail Warns of Delivery Delays Across 16 UK Postcode Areas

Staff shortages are prompting route rotations to keep deliveries moving.

Overview

  • Royal Mail has issued a disruption alert covering 16 postcode areas, with homes and businesses told to expect late mail in places such as Ashington, Ilfracombe, New Ferry, Perth and Tweedale.
  • The company says some delivery offices cannot operate at normal levels because of high sick absence and resourcing gaps.
  • To reduce knock-ons, Royal Mail will rotate deliveries between streets and provide targeted support to affected offices, and it says its air and road network ran to schedule over the past day.
  • A planned pause for the Spring Bank Holiday on Monday 25 May will stop collections and deliveries nationwide, with Ayr’s KA6 to KA8 area the only exception.
  • These short-term delays come as Royal Mail pursues a £500 million plan after a £21 million Ofcom fine, with proposals to end Saturday Second Class and shift to three days one week and two the next to meet targets by May 2027.
