Rousey vs. Carano on Netflix: Fight-Week Schedule Set for May 16

The newly announced plan underscores Netflix’s bid to test a streamer-led MMA model.

Overview

  • MVP released the full run-up with open workouts at Venice Beach on May 13, a final press conference at the Intuit Dome plaza on May 14, ceremonial weigh-ins the next day, prelims at 6 p.m. ET on Tudum and MVP’s YouTube, and a 9 p.m. ET main card on Netflix.
  • Ronda Rousey said this will be her last fight unless a trilogy with Gina Carano makes sense, citing a promise to her family and a desire to have more children.
  • The card is promoted by Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions and features Francis Ngannou vs. Philipe Lins and Nate Diaz vs. Mike Perry, with the rest of the bout order still to be finalized.
  • Both headliners are returning after long layoffs, with Rousey last competing in 2016 after back-to-back UFC knockout losses and Carano last fighting in 2009 against Cris Cyborg.
  • Addressing criticism of their ages, Rousey told Yahoo Sports she feels fresher after time away and said she is more dangerous now because of gains in knowledge and recovery.
