Overview
- A silver SUV driven by Saskatchewan Roughriders captain Jayden Dalke struck a black SUV in a head‑on collision on Highway 11 near Lumsden on Saturday night, and both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.
- Saskatchewan RCMP say Dalke was travelling the wrong way on the divided highway and officers found alcohol and cannabis in his vehicle; they also say the same SUV was reported to have left a Lumsden gas station without paying about 30 minutes earlier.
- Autopsies, toxicology tests and a formal collision reconstruction have been ordered by investigators, and RCMP say the reconstruction could take months before it clarifies causation or any legal consequences.
- The Roughriders and the CFL have expressed grief, cancelled at least one practice, and plan pregame tributes and for players to wear Dalke’s initials on helmets while scheduled games go ahead.
- The other victim, 22‑year‑old Bhishma Rajyaguru of Regina, is being mourned by friends and family and a GoFundMe has raised funds to repatriate his body to India as authorities complete forensic work.
