Overview
- The Ministério Público de Roraima filed a formal criminal complaint on Aug. 21 accusing Wenderson Lima de Souza and Arielly Kamila Moraes de Souza of rape and other sexual crimes after a police inquiry that identified six victims aged 12 to 17.
- Investigators say the pair used their leadership in a registered Boa Vista church to isolate girls, distort biblical passages, and offer money or favors to keep the abuse secret.
- A temporary arrest was ordered in July but the couple have been fugitives since late April when a victim said they left Boa Vista with church funds, and prosecutors now say they likely pose a cross‑border flight risk.
- The MPRR has asked judges to convert temporary detention to preventive detention, suspend the suspects' passports and driver’s licenses, and include them in Interpol’s wanted list to block international escape.
- The complaint also seeks civil damages for victims — with R$560,000 sought from Wenderson and R$195,000 from Arielly — and prosecutors say investigators are still probing other possible victims and the role of a third person in destroying evidence.
