Rome to Start €2 Ticket for Trevi Fountain Access on Feb. 2

City officials describe the fee as a response to maintenance needs caused by chronic crowding documented in a year-long trial.

Overview

  • Tourists and non-residents will pay €2 to enter the inner perimeter of the Trevi Fountain starting Monday, Feb. 2, with the first day open 9:00–22:00.
  • Regular hours will run Monday and Friday 11:30–22:00 and 9:00–22:00 on other days, with free viewing for all after daily closure at 22:00.
  • Residents of Rome and the Metropolitan City, people with disabilities with one accompanier, children under six, and licensed guides are exempt.
  • Presale opens Jan. 29 via fontanaditrevi.roma.it, as the city installs tendiflex barriers, a ticket booth on Via della Stamperia, and stewards to manage entry.
  • The municipality projects about €6.5 million in annual revenue after a pilot logged over 10 million visits, roughly 30,000 daily on average with peaks of 70,000.
