Overview

  • The paid perimeter covers the steps and basin-side area, while the wider square remains free to view.
  • Visiting hours run 09:00–22:00, with openings at 11:30 on Mondays and Fridays.
  • Residents of Rome and its metro area, children under five, and people with disabilities and their companions are exempt from the charge.
  • Reversible barriers are being installed and about 25 attendants are filtering entry, with bans on eating, drinking or sitting and fines that rise to €450 for bathing.
  • Officials say proceeds will support maintenance, staffing and some free museum access for locals, coins thrown in the fountain continue to go to Caritas, and the city plans €5 tickets at five other currently free sites.
