Overview
- NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, which is scheduled to lift off on Sunday, Aug. 30, completed final integration and was moved to SpaceX’s LC‑39A hangar for final prelaunch checks.
- After launch the observatory will take roughly 30 days to reach Sun–Earth L2 and undergo about 100 days of deployments, calibrations, and tests before science operations begin.
- Roman carries two main instruments: a 300‑megapixel Wide Field Instrument that matches Hubble’s sharpness with a field of view about 100 times larger, and a Coronagraph Instrument that will demonstrate deformable‑mirror and precision alignment technologies for direct exoplanet imaging.
- The mission will run on a five‑year baseline with fuel as the expected life‑limiting resource, send about 1–1.4 terabytes of data per day to global ground stations, and aims to map billions of galaxies and conduct a large statistical census of exoplanets.
