Rogers Completes World Cup 5G+ Upgrades in Toronto and Vancouver

The carrier targets high-traffic venues to handle surging data use during the 2026 tournament.

Overview

  • Rogers, which announced the work Thursday, finished a $22 million build around Toronto’s BMO Field and added $5 million of upgrades in Vancouver.
  • At BMO Field, the in-stadium system now equals the capacity of 16 new cell towers, supported by added 5G+ spectrum for faster speeds and more bandwidth.
  • Coverage extends beyond the stadium to fan zones, hotels, Pearson Airport, Union Station and select TTC stops, with temporary mobile cell sites deployed in downtown hot spots.
  • Large events now depend on phones for dynamic tickets, card payments and venue security, so the extra capacity is meant to keep entries moving and purchases processing during peak moments.
  • Rogers will give 5G+ Ultimate customers Priority Network Access during the tournament, while some physical upgrades such as added antennas can improve performance for users on any major carrier.
