Rofu Kinderland Cuts 27 Stores as 32-Store Clearance Sales Begin

Creditors will vote this summer on an investor-backed insolvency plan that could allow the chain to resume independent operations in August.

Overview

  • On Monday, July 13 the company published a consolidated list showing clearance sales running in 32 stores through July, with 27 locations scheduled to close permanently and five to be retained and restocked.
  • Rofu signed an investor agreement on April 23 with Kids & School Holding GmbH, whose shareholder TOP Locc GmbH is backing a rescue via an insolvency plan.
  • Clearance-sale rules at affected stores bar voucher redemptions and promotional prices and rely on the shelf price for each item.
  • Company figures say about 330 employees work at the stores planned for closure and will be laid off, with Bavaria hit hardest where 11 sites are to close.
  • The insolvency is being handled as a self-administration process led by Pluta Management and lawyer Marcus Katholing that aims to preserve the chain by keeping roughly 77 of about 104 stores and shrinking the network to improve viability.
