Overview
- The city's Rocky statue, which moved Wednesday, was taken from the base of the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps into the museum for its first indoor display.
- For safety during the crane lift, the museum closed the statue site and set temporary lane and sidewalk closures along Spring Garden Street between Kelly Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
- The indoor placement anchors Rising Up: Rocky and the Making of Monuments, a show running April 25 to Aug. 2 that brings together more than 150 works to chart fighters in art and to probe how the steps became a pilgrimage for underdogs.
- A separate Rocky cast on loan from Sylvester Stallone remains at the top of the steps through the show and is slated to return to his collection afterward, while the city's cast is planned to take that spot.
- City officials have also proposed moving the Joe Frazier statue to the now-empty base as a long-term replacement, but no relocation date has been set.
