Overview
- The city's bronze Rocky statue, which moved Wednesday, now stands inside the museum as the centerpiece of 'Rising Up,' opening April 25 and running through Aug. 2.
- Crews wrapped the figure, lifted it by crane onto a pallet, and drove it by flatbed truck, and officials closed the base of the steps and lanes on Spring Garden Street for safety during the move.
- A separate Rocky owned by Sylvester Stallone remains at the top of the steps during the show and will be returned afterward, when the city’s statue is slated to take that spot.
- The now-empty base is planned to host the Joe Frazier statue with new panels on his legacy, and city arts officials say installation could come within a month or two though no date is set.
- Guest curator Paul Farber assembled more than 150 works spanning about 2,000 years to explore fighters and underdogs, and the museum notes there are three Rocky casts, including one at the airport.
