Overview
- The Rockstar Game Workers Union, part of the IWGB, filed for voluntary recognition at the end of June to secure collective bargaining before GTA 6 ships on November 19, 2026.
- Rockstar and parent Take-Two said they have received the request and will arrange meetings with union representatives to discuss voluntary recognition.
- The bid follows the October 2025 dismissal of about 31–34 staff that the IWGB calls union-busting and which is the subject of legal claims with a final employment tribunal set for 10 September–15 October 2026.
- Current and anonymous union members have accused Rockstar of pay opacity, bonuses used as leverage, contractual provisions that normalise overtime, and uneven progressions and benefits across teams.
- If Rockstar refuses voluntary recognition it will have a short statutory response window and the union can apply to the Central Arbitration Committee for legal recognition or ballot for strike action, a path made more consequential by large pre-order revenue for GTA 6.
