Overview
- The Rockies selected Cole Carrigg’s contract Tuesday and added him to the 40-man roster, placing him in the starting lineup in center field and batting seventh that night.
- To create roster space Colorado designated right-hander Keegan Thompson for assignment and recalled righty reliever Jeff Criswell from Triple-A Albuquerque.
- Carrigg earned the call after a 57-game stretch with Triple-A Albuquerque in which he hit .338/.414/.529 with 15 doubles, five triples, six home runs, 42 RBIs and 30 stolen bases.
- He told reporters he simplified his left-handed swing, improved outfield routes and plans to bring speed and multi-position defense that the Rockies expect to use mainly in the outfield.
- Outfielder Tyler Freeman was placed on the seven-day concussion injured list after being hit in the head, a move that opened additional roster flexibility and gives Carrigg an early chance to establish himself.
