Overview
- Roblox announced Build as a mobile-first creation tab that will enter a public alpha on July 28 in New Zealand and allow age-verified users nine and older to create projects.
- Build converts plain-language prompts into basic playable games by generating gameplay mechanics, environments, characters, visual style, sound, and functional 3D objects and scenes.
- Projects started in Build share the same back end, AI models, and chat history with Roblox Studio so creators can begin on a phone and continue work on the desktop Studio.
- Roblox says Build-created games must pass safety checks and extended review for Kids and Select catalogs and that its retention-based discovery system will limit visibility for creations that don’t hold players.
- Developers warn that easier game generation could flood the platform with repetitive or low-quality projects and increase competition and moderation workloads, a concern echoed by a survey finding 52% of industry pros view generative AI’s effects negatively.
