Robinson’s Return Tilts Lord’s Test as England Close on Victory

A late burst from Ollie Robinson on Saturday left New Zealand 55-5 chasing 254 on a rain-hit, seam-swinging Lord’s pitch and put England within sight of a win.

Overview

  • On Thursday England were bowled out for 140 with Kyle Jamieson taking 5-62 to set the tone of a bowler-dominated match.
  • Also on Thursday recalled seamer Ollie Robinson ripped through New Zealand’s top order by taking three wickets in his opening over to leave the tourists 2-3.
  • On Friday Robinson finished with a five-wicket haul as New Zealand were dismissed for 113 and England, helped by debutant Emilio Gay’s 57, set a target of 254.
  • By close of play on Friday New Zealand were 36-3 in their second innings and on Saturday limited overs saw Robinson take two more quick wickets to make it 55-5.
  • Persistent rain, poor light and a pitch offering swing and uneven bounce have favoured fast bowlers and leave England the likely side to wrap up the match and influence selection debates after the Ashes reset.
