Rob Reiner Wins Posthumous Emmy for The Bear

It adds a late-career honor that rewrites his Emmy record.

Overview

  • The Television Academy announced Reiner as the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series winner at the Creative Arts Emmys on Sept. 6, with presenter Wendi McLendon-Covey accepting the trophy and the audience rising for a long standing ovation.
  • Reiner’s award recognizes his three-episode turn as Albert Schnurr on FX’s The Bear, a restaurant franchiser who mentored the character Ebraheim and whose arc helped drive the series’ storyline.
  • The win is Reiner’s third career Emmy and sets a new record for the longest gap between acting wins at 48 years, and it is the first posthumous acting Emmy since 1995.
  • The Bear paid a subtle on-screen tribute to Reiner in its finale, ending a phone scene with the line “as you wish,” and his final on-screen cameo appeared this summer in Larry David’s HBO sketch series.
  • Reiner’s death and the criminal case remain active facts in the story: he and his wife were killed in December 2025, their son Nick has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and has pleaded not guilty, and his next scheduled court date is Sept. 15.
