Overview
- The U.S. distribution deal between Roadside Attractions and Vertical was announced Friday, Aug. 7, and sets The Gallerist for release in theaters on Dec. 4.
- The film is directed by Cathy Yan and features a star-driven ensemble led by Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega alongside Sterling K. Brown, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Zach Galifianakis, Daniel Brühl, Charli XCX and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
- The Gallerist premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January where critics responded positively, a reception that buyers cited as a key reason for moving quickly to secure U.S. rights.
- MRC produced the picture with Natalie Portman among the credited producers, and the acquisition was negotiated by Roadside’s Howard Cohen and Vertical’s Peter Jarowey with Tony Piantedosi involved on Vertical’s side.
- The deal gives Yan a commercial U.S. rollout after her Sundance success and gives Roadside and Vertical another specialty release to market to adult and awards-minded audiences during the December theatrical window.
