RNDC Warns of Large Layoffs in Arizona and Florida as Reyes Deal Advances

Companies call the notices precautionary during a pending sale that could close by late May.

Overview

  • Republic National Distributing Company filed legal notices that flag 211 potential job losses at its Phoenix site and 363 in Deerfield Beach, with further possible cuts in Jacksonville (169), Pensacola (121) and Tampa (393).
  • A Florida filing links the risk to Reyes Beverage Group’s plan to buy RNDC operations in 11 states and Washington, D.C., and says Deerfield Beach layoffs could start on or within 14 days of June 21.
  • The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification law requires large employers to give advance notice before mass layoffs, which RNDC says is why it issued conditional letters.
  • RNDC says the notices do not represent final employment decisions, and Reyes says it expects to hire many current workers while running the acquired businesses as separate units during onboarding.
  • Both companies say the transaction still needs regulatory approvals, and RNDC says it could close as early as the end of May.
