Overview
- Club Atlético River Plate moved from preparatory works to active construction with the first deep excavations for the new foundations reported on June 23–24, 2026.
- The project will add a continuous 360° fifth tier and an integral roof to raise capacity from about 85,000 to roughly 101,000 seats and place about 16,000 new spectator spots.
- Engineers plan heavy civil work including roughly 17,000 m³ of excavation, foundations 16–27 meters deep supported by about 100 perimeter columns, and major placements of steel and concrete.
- Design and delivery partners are German firm Schlaich Bergermann Partner (SBP) and Argentine builder Grupo ENG S.A., with a financing package including up to US$100 million of long‑term credit arranged with BID Invest and the Development Bank and a total estimated cost near US$145 million.
- River plans a 36‑month schedule targeting completion around 2029, expects to keep most home matches at the Monumental with at most three official fixtures altered, and retains about 40,000 member seats without extra charge while preparing the stadium to host one of Argentina’s inaugural World Cup 2030 matches.
