Ripple Named Exclusive Digital-Asset Partner for Water.org’s Get Blue Campaign

Faster, cheaper transfers using Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin could let Water.org convert the same donations into more household water and sanitation loans.

Overview

  • Ripple announced it joined Water.org’s Get Blue coalition on Wednesday as the campaign’s sole digital-asset and payments partner and pledged seed funding plus payment rails.
  • The company will supply RLUSD, a U.S. dollar–backed stablecoin that runs on the XRP Ledger and Ethereum, and use Ripple Payments to move funds across borders more quickly than traditional banking.
  • Water.org and Ripple have not disclosed key operational details including exact seed amounts, which countries or local microfinance institutions will receive initial transfers, or expected transaction volumes.
  • Get Blue channels corporate and consumer donations into Water.org’s WaterCredit model, which has reached more than 85 million people and relies on local lenders to issue small, repayable household water and sanitation loans.
  • Ripple has previously used RLUSD in humanitarian pilots such as a Kenya drought-insurance trial, and faster settlement on blockchain rails could free more donated capital for loans and scale Water.org’s goal to reach 200 million people by 2030.
