Rio Military Police Officer Arrested on Rape, Robbery and Extortion Charges in Loan-Sharking Case

Overview

• Agents from the 82nd Police Station and the Military Police Internal Affairs arrested Lucas de Sousa Mathias inside the 22nd Battalion under a warrant issued by Niterói’s 2nd Custody Court.
• Civil Police say the attack occurred on January 4 during collection of an illegal loan that grew from R$800 to R$7,000, involving a home invasion, abduction, forced alcohol ingestion, sexual assault and theft of electronics.
• Investigators traced the threatening phone number to Mathias after calls were placed from his wife’s device, allowing them to identify his unit and locate him for the arrest.
• A search at alleged accomplice Dayvid (Davyd) Novato Santana’s residence seized a 12-gauge shotgun, a 9mm pistol, ammunition, ledgers of debts, the victim’s televisions and a toucan; Santana remains at large and is sought via Disque Denúncia.
• Mathias is held at the Rio Military Police prison (UPPMERJ) as criminal and internal disciplinary proceedings move forward, and police cite a prior record of violent behavior and a militia probe in Araruama.
