Riley Greene Nears Return to Tigers After Hamstring Rehab

A short rehab assignment will set the timing of his activation.

Overview

  • Greene left a game with a hamstring injury on Aug. 11 and was placed on the injured list the next day.
  • He returned to Comerica Park for conditioning and outfield drills on Monday and took batting practice and running drills on Tuesday as his rehab advanced.
  • Manager A.J. Hinch said Greene is progressing and is “up to a pretty high threshold” but is not yet at full speed.
  • Although Greene is eligible to be activated, the team expects him to complete a brief minor-league rehab assignment before rejoining the major-league roster.
  • Greene’s .816 OPS, 16 homers and 54 RBIs this season make his return important to a Tigers lineup that has slumped in his absence and could see an immediate boost in power and run production.
