Rihanna Home Shooting Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

Bail stays at $1.875 million with a no-contact order as the case moves toward a preliminary hearing.

Overview

  • Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 35, entered a not-guilty plea Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court to attempted murder and multiple firearm felonies.
  • Prosecutors say Ortiz fired about 20 rounds from an AR-15–style rifle at Rihanna’s Beverly Crest property on March 8, striking a gate, an Airstream trailer and a neighboring home.
  • No injuries were reported, and police arrested Ortiz hours later in Sherman Oaks, recovering a rifle, extra ammunition and a wig prosecutors say was meant as a disguise.
  • Judge Theresa McGonigle denied a request to cut bail, issued stay-away and firearms restrictions, and, at the state’s request, barred Ortiz from practicing her profession in California during the case.
  • Investigators are reviewing social-media activity to assess motive, and the next court date is set for April 8 to schedule a preliminary hearing where evidence will be tested.
