Rideshare Driver Arrested on Dangerous-Weapon Charge After Logan Airport Passenger Assault

The arrest moves the case toward court while investigators and a clinician review trip records, radio transmissions and the defendant’s competency.

Overview

  • A 23-year-old Lowell man, Leonard Bacon, was arrested Sunday and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury in connection with an early Friday morning assault at Logan Airport.
  • Police say the passenger ran into Terminal C just before 5:30 a.m. to report the attack and was taken to a Boston-area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
  • State Police issued a BOLO, searched for the suspect for two days, traced the vehicle through the driver’s phone and located Bacon at a Lowell residence before taking him to the State Police barracks at Logan.
  • Uber says it suspended the driver’s access, has contacted the rider and is cooperating with investigators, while a radio transmission recorded by Broadcastify indicated the assault involved a stabbing though officials have released limited weapon and motive details.
  • Bacon was arraigned in East Boston court and ordered held without bail pending a competency evaluation, and the case will proceed as investigators review trip records, forensic evidence and witness accounts.
