RHS Holds First Flower Show at Sandringham as King and Queen Open Event

  • King Charles and Queen Camilla officially opened the inaugural RHS Sandringham Flower Show and undertook extended walkabouts to meet exhibitors and the public on Wednesday, July 22.
  • The monarchs presented prizes including The Best Exhibit in the Floral Marquee to Colin and Esta Jones of Roaleyn Fuchsias and The Queen’s Special Award for Upcycled Container Gardens to Ingoldisthorpe Church of England Primary School.
  • Under a new agreement the Sandringham Estate will host an RHS-run show once every three years, with the volunteer-run Sandringham Flower Show returning in the intervening years and the next RHS event planned for 2029.
  • The five-day programme features show gardens, talks and demonstrations that stress biodiversity and wildlife-friendly methods, and includes the RHS Royal Legacy Garden designed by Catherine MacDonald in collaboration with the King.
  • The opening coincided with industry tributes to rose breeder David Austin and drew large public crowds, higher ticket prices and traffic controls around the estate as local vendors and national exhibitors showcased displays.
