Rhode Island Man Accused of Grooming Florida Girl via Gaming Apps Waives Extradition

Authorities describe a months-long scheme that moved from Fortnite to Snapchat to Roblox.

Overview

  • Justin Adkins, 29, was arrested in West Warwick and, after a Feb. 3 fugitive hearing, waived extradition and was held without bail; court records list a Feb. 17 Rhode Island date.
  • Florida prosecutors charged Adkins with 13 counts of unlawful possession of child sexual performance material, one count of using a child in a sexual performance, and transmission of harmful material, carrying up to 85 years if convicted.
  • Investigators say contact began in 2024 on Fortnite before shifting to Snapchat and Roblox, with Adkins coercing the victim to produce hundreds of images and videos and sending pornographic material with instructions to recreate it.
  • Law enforcement reports seizing thousands of files containing child sexual abuse content, including many images linked to Snapchat exchanges, and says Adkins used gifts such as a smartphone plus V-Bucks and Robux to manipulate the victim.
  • Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is highlighting the case in ongoing civil and criminal actions targeting Roblox’s safety practices, while Adkins also faces separate Rhode Island child-molestation charges.
