Rheinmetall and Destinus Create Joint Venture to Scale European Missile Production

The deal seeks to boost Europe’s missile output by turning boutique systems into high-volume products.

Overview

  • Rheinmetall and Destinus announced a new company called Rheinmetall Destinus Strike Systems with Rheinmetall holding 51 percent and Destinus 49 percent.
  • The venture will build cruise missiles and ballistic rocket artillery, targeting European and NATO-aligned customers from a base in Unterlüß, Germany.
  • The partners expect to launch the entity in the second half of 2026 pending regulatory approvals, with new serial production and qualification lines planned at Rheinmetall’s German facilities.
  • Destinus contributes existing missile designs and running lines reported at more than 2,000 cruise missile systems per year, with platforms already used and validated in Ukraine including the Ruta family.
  • Company leaders say the move answers wartime demand for affordable long-range strike and could shift European procurement toward larger, faster deliveries, with export reviews and local industrial tie-ups likely to shape market access.
