Overview
- REWE Dortmund pulled four house-brand Zwiebelmettwurst products after a lab found shigatoxin-producing E. coli in one sample, with officials clarifying STEC following early mentions of Salmonella.
- The recall covers a 200 g self-service pack and three counter items sold since 13 April, namely 200 g portions, 90 g balls and a 650 g ring, all with a 28.04.2026 use-by date, and other dates are not affected.
- Shops removed the items from sale across the regional network and customers are urged not to eat them and can get a refund at any REWE Dortmund store without a receipt.
- Health guidance warns that STEC can cause diarrhea and stomach pain and, in rare severe cases, bloody diarrhea and acute kidney failure, so anyone with strong or lasting symptoms should seek medical care.
- Separately, Recker Convenience recalled ja! pork mini-schnitzel 400 g with MHD 20.12.2026 (lot 2612564) because some packs contained cordon bleu with undeclared cheese, a risk for people with milk allergy or lactose intolerance.
