Overview
- Security researcher Andy Nguyen chained exploits using the Byepervisor project to bypass Sony’s hypervisor on older PS5 firmware in the 1.xx–2.xx range.
- He submitted patches to the Mesa graphics stack so Linux can access the PS5’s RDNA 2 GPU features, including Vulkan ray tracing.
- The demo shows Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced running at 1440p and 60 frames per second, with working 4K HDMI output, audio, and all USB ports.
- Nguyen reports stable operation at 3.2 GHz CPU and 2.0 GHz GPU, while higher clocks up to 3.5 GHz and 2.23 GHz cause the PS5 Slim to overheat.
- The method remains niche because it requires unpatched consoles and GPU acceleration under Linux is still incomplete.
