Overview
- The Central Florida Zoo took in 13 two-toed sloths from Sloth World on April 24 and has been providing intensive veterinary and nutritional care for the group.
- Nine sloths remain in care and have passed a 30-day biological quarantine that allowed some PPE rules to be relaxed while the animals stay behind the scenes.
- Willow, Mojo Jojo, and Leeloo have completed voluntary weigh-ins using a custom, food‑baited weigh box designed by behavioral coordinator Kayce to avoid stressful handling.
- Dolce, Chewie, and Phantom have been cleared of ICU-level care after roughly a week without consistent medical intervention, while several animals including Bandit, Habanero, Dumpling, and young Mr. Ginger died after arrival.
- Earlier inspections of the Sloth World facility documented cold exposure, lack of running water and faulty heaters and those findings have led to state scrutiny and calls for tighter oversight of wildlife import and care practices as the zoo continues slow, behind-the-scenes rehabilitation.
