Overview
- Reports published Sunday cited Florida Highway Patrol records showing Rueben Bain Jr. was cited for careless driving in a March 17, 2024 I-95 crash in Miami in which 22-year-old passenger Destiny Betts was critically injured and later died after nearly three months in a coma.
- The crash report says Bain’s Land Rover rear-ended another car and then struck concrete barriers on both sides of the highway, and troopers noted no signs of impairment and administered no sobriety tests.
- Court records show the careless-driving citation was dismissed in June 2024 as a defective citation, and separate reporting says a civil lawsuit tied to the crash was settled in Miami.
- With the draft scheduled for April 23–25, multiple teams say they are aware of the incident and are still gathering information, while several reporters note most clubs indicate the matter has been addressed in their vetting.
- Betts’ family called her death the result of a tragic accident and requested privacy, and records also show Bain received another careless-driving citation on Oct. 10, 2025 that was dismissed in February 2026.
