Reports Flag Big iPhone 18 Pro Camera Upgrades as Foldable Ultra Rumors Build

Bloomberg signals unusually large imaging hardware changes for Apple’s Pro line.

Overview

  • Mark Gurman of Bloomberg said the iPhone 18 Pro will bring some of the biggest camera hardware upgrades in the lineup’s history, without detailing the parts.
  • Leaks point to a variable aperture for the Main camera, a wider aperture for the Telephoto, and testing of stacked sensors said to boost dynamic range and cut image noise.
  • Supply-chain reporting suggests the Pro Max may add a 5100–5200 mAh battery and a thicker camera module, which could make the phone heavier and slightly thicker than the prior model.
  • This fall’s lineup is widely expected to split between traditional iPhone 18 Pro models and a first foldable iPhone Ultra that reportedly drops the Telephoto lens and may share an A20 Pro chip.
  • Rumors also say the Pro may use an aluminum body with a vapor chamber for cooling while the Ultra could use titanium without a vapor chamber, and Apple has not confirmed any details ahead of an expected September reveal.
