Repairs Finish on Aliquippa Water Mains With Full Service Expected Tuesday

Crews say pressure is coming back online as a boil-water advisory stays in place during system recovery.

Overview

  • As of Tuesday morning, the water authority reported all breaks repaired, with about 1,000 customers still without service, a boil-water advisory in effect, and full restoration expected by Tuesday afternoon.
  • Aliquippa and its water authority declared a state of emergency Monday after multiple main failures left roughly 22,000 residents in Aliquippa, Hopewell, Raccoon and Independence with little or no water.
  • One major failure on a 16-inch transmission line at the Route 51 exit ramp drained storage tanks, and crews said they isolated that line to start pushing water back into the system.
  • City leaders said they are coordinating with the Governor’s office, the EPA, Beaver County Emergency Services, the Red Cross and The Salvation Army, with bottled-water distribution planned and fire departments ready to bring tanker trucks for fires.
  • The authority urged customers to conserve water while pressure stabilizes and tests clear the supply, and its manager said recent freeze–thaw cycles likely contributed to the breaks though the exact cause is not confirmed.
