Reniec Delivered Over 16,000 DNIs During June 7 Vote to Protect Voter Access

The agency ran an extraordinary campaign to issue same‑day and preprocessed identity cards across dozens of centers to help citizens vote despite a large stock of uncollected documents.

Overview

  • Reniec opened 235 agencies and extended service hours for the second‑round election, running most sites from early morning until about 4:00 p.m. to allow voters time to reach polling stations.
  • The agency reported it delivered 16,386 DNIs and processed 3,237 additional identification transactions during the election operation.
  • Reniec ran a temporary DNI Exprés online service that logged 4,586 duplicate requests between June 4 and the afternoon of June 7 and allowed same‑day pickup at 27 authorized printing centers.
  • Local offices reported concrete outputs, for example Reniec in La Libertad (Trujillo) said it handed out about 3,300 DNIs and extended attention until 4:00 p.m. on election day.
  • Officials warned more than 700,000 DNIs remain uncollected nationwide and reminded citizens that only the DNI is valid for voting, that expired DNIs were accepted exceptionally, and that a police report is required if a document cannot be obtained.
