- Renfe, which announced the policy on Friday, will permit dogs up to 40 kilograms to travel on most commercial and public services beginning Tuesday, July 21.
- Passengers must buy a ticket plus a pet supplement online, in the Renfe app or via agencies and the system will mark eligible trains and auto‑assign two contiguous seats.
- The supplement costs €40 on AVE, Avlo, Alvia, Euromed and Intercity services and the general fare applies on Avant and Media Distancia trains.
- Operational rules limit two large dogs per train to a designated ‘pet friendly’ car, require the animal to sit on the inner window seat next to its owner, wear a muzzle at stations and during boarding, be on a fixed leash up to 1.5 m, and travel with up‑to‑date vaccination documentation; Renfe will hand owners a seat cover and mat on main services.
