Overview
- Renault showed the R4 JP4x4 concept at the Roland-Garros French Open as a beach-minded, open-air take on its small electric SUV.
- The study runs a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup with an added rear motor, a 15 mm suspension lift, and a 10 mm wider track on 18-inch wheels with Goodyear UltraGrip tires.
- The body trades five doors for two half-doors with no side windows or top, adds an X-braced roof to carry a surfboard, and uses a drop-down tailgate to create a pickup-style cargo area.
- Inside, the concept fits 1970s-inspired bucket “Egyptian Mummy” seats, fabric-wrapped panels, extra grab handles, and a floating center console, while its look nods to the 1969 Plein Air and 1981 JP4.
- Renault says this is a one-off with no production plans and is watching customer feedback on four-wheel-drive R4s, and any road-going version would need major safety updates.
