Renault Unveils ‘futuREady India’ With Seven Models and €2 Billion Exports by 2030

The plan leans on full control of Renault’s Chennai base to turn India into a low-cost engineering and export hub.

Overview

  • Renault, which launched its futuREady India roadmap in Chennai on Thursday, set goals to reach a 5% market share and place India among its top three markets by 2030.
  • By 2030 the line-up grows to seven models across petrol, CNG, hybrid and electric power on two platforms—RGEP for entry cars and RGMP for larger models—with about half of India sales expected to be electrified.
  • Exports worth roughly €2 billion a year by 2030 are targeted from India for vehicles, parts, software and engineering, with the company clarifying that Europe-bound vehicle exports are not part of the plan.
  • Early steps include the new Duster already on the market and the company aiming to start Bridger production in India in the second half of next year with petrol at launch and a full-electric version to follow.
  • Execution hinges on full ownership of the Chennai plant with capacity near 480,000 units, localisation that could approach 90%, and an engineering centre of about 6,000 people to support India programs and global work.
