Relic Announces Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition for PC

Featuring a 64-bit overhaul with upgraded visuals, improved AI, modernized UI, and preserved mod compatibility, the update prepares the 2006 RTS for a fall 2026 Steam relaunch.

Overview

  • Relic Entertainment and Blackbird Interactive announced Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition at the PC Gaming Show on Sunday, June 7, 2026, publishing a trailer and a Steam page that set a fall 2026 release window for Steam without a firm date or price.
  • The Definitive Edition bundles the original 2006 game with the Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor expansions and preserves three full single-player campaigns, four playable armies, and more than 50 multiplayer and skirmish maps.
  • Technical changes include a full upgrade to 64-bit for better performance on modern PCs, widescreen and ultrawide HUD support, enhanced unit and environment textures, and improved lighting and shadows.
  • Gameplay updates add concrete quality-of-life features such as vehicle reversing and automatic HQ reinforcement, plus an improved AI system and a new, harder 'Ruthless' AI difficulty aimed at veteran players.
  • Relic says the update will maintain compatibility with roughly 20 years of community-created mods, a move meant to protect the modding community and extend the game’s longevity while players wait for final release date, pricing and post-launch support details.
